Why do guests have to wear a wristband?

The wristband contains a radio frequency ID (RFID) chip that alerts the YourDay system to store personal footage as the guest go on the featured rides and walk around the park.

Do guests need to go on rides in a certain order?

No. The main computer retrieves the personalized video where it exists and automatically assembles it according to the prescribed Edit Decision List or how the stock sequences are laid out on the finished pre-recorded DVD.

What if a guest skips a ride or a ride is down for park maintenance?

The master DVD contains a full 20 minutes of generic footage with no blank spaces, and all personalized clips are recorded on top of the master. So, if a guest skips a YourDay-equipped ride or a ride is down for park maintenance, the finished DVD will still be complete, as the original stock video of actors on the ride would remain on that portion of the DVD. There would simply be no personalized video on that particular ride.

What if a guest goes on a ride twice?

While both sequences will be captured and digitally stored, only the last ride sequence will be transferred onto DVD at the time the guest asks to purchase.

Do the video cameras move?

The YourDay system is designed for ride vehicles to move rather than the cameras. So the ride vehicles will move in and out of view of the cameras, with 2-4 cameras positioned along the path of each selected ride to capture 4-16 seconds of personalized video per ride (or 2-4 seconds per clip). However, this does not preclude the theme park from implementing cameras that move, pan or zoom.

What exactly is digitally written to DVD?

Only the captured personalized video clips are actually written to DVD when the final product is assembled. Our frame-accurate DVD recorders can write about 5 minutes of video to a DVD in less than 5 minutes.

How long will guests have to wait for their DVD to be assembled?

Less than five minutes.

Will you know where guests are in the park?

No. For one thing, our RFID sensors will only tell our system to save footage when someone wearing a wristband approaches the cameras. Secondly, we won’t be able to identify them personally, as the wristbands are randomly numbered and randomly distributed at the park. So we will know that someone wearing a YourDay wristband is riding on Nemesis at Alton Towers, for example, but we won’t know who they are.

How can you be sure that guests are given the right DVD?

After your personalised clips are laid onto the master DVD, your DVD is labelled with a unique barcode. The unique barcode is then scanned and linked through our computerised till system to the barcode printed on your till receipt, confirming that the barcodes match.

What if a guest visits the park on a rainy or overcast day and the master DVD was shot on a sunny day? Won't there be visual continuity problems?

Outdoor cameras installed on the rides will normally be positioned slightly high and pointing downward so that the sky is seldom part of the shot, and it won’t matter if the master DVD was shot with a blue sky and the guest visits the park on a grey day. The high quality of digital cameras and YourDay’s software also mean that any slight discrepancies in outdoor lighting will almost never be a factor. It is worth remembering that all personalized clips, while dynamic, are brief, and viewers will only have time to focus on who is in the film and how much fun they are having, rather than negligible light discrepancies.

What if a guest visits the park at night? Will the master DVD match?

Selected rides will be designated ‘night-time only’ rides. So, if a guest goes on a YourDay-equipped ‘night-time only’ ride during the day, no personalized daytime footage will be captured. Only if the guest goes on the same ride at night will personalized video be filmed and later integrated with the existing night-time stock video contained on the finished DVD.

Is five minutes of personalized video enough?

The visual power of video editing is immense. Multiple video clips totalling about 5 minutes of personalized footage will be interspersed throughout the finished film. YourDay believes that, on viewing the finished product, guests will have no doubt that they are starring in  their own movie.

How long will it take to install the YourDay system in a theme park?

At seasonal theme parks, installation will be performed off-season. At year-round parks, the vast majority of the installation will be performed at night or after hours. Depending on the size and complexity of the venue, complete installation is expected to take between 3 and 6 months.
