YourDay – the innovative video-capture product for destination venues across the world
Launched exclusively at the Alton Towers Resort, award-winning YourDay uses state-of-the-art technology to produce unique personalised video souvenirs.
As guests enter the Park, they are offered a YourDay RFID (radio frequency) wristband to wear during their visit. The passive RFID wristband enables the YourDay system to mark the relevant ride cycles the guests visit during the day. The correlation between the wristband and the ride cycle occurs at the beginning of every ride cycle on six of the main rides at the Alton Towers Resort: Air, Corkscrew, Nemesis, Oblivion, Rita – Queen of Speed and Spinball Whizzer. Personalised footage of guests is also captured on various points around the park as they pass antennae which read the wristband.
The automated video ingest system then records the personal ride events and stores the material centrally for downstream processing. The processing capabilities of the system include effects, slow motion, movie compilation and transcoding.
The YourDay system generates a personalised short individual ride movie every time a ride train completes a ride cycle. This amounts to in excess of 3,000 such ride movies every operating day.
At the end of the guests’ visit they enter the YourDay retail shop and present the wristband. Guests then choose what ride movies they require with the assistance of the Preview facility at the till. Multiple wristbands can be used to create a single DVD. Once confirmed, the system then aggregates the related ride movies and compiles the final DVD. The final DVD is delivered in under 5 minutes.
The YourDay theme park video-capture system is the first of its kind and has been awarded the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) Honorable Mention for its innovative YourDay installation at the Alton Towers Resort at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2007 in Orlando, Florida.

Guests can purchase their unique YourDay DVD at the YourDay shop on Towers Street. Visitors get the chance to preview their movies before deciding which rides they want included on their DVD. Guests can choose between a personalised multi-ride DVD for £19.99 or a single ride DVD for £6.99.
