Our RFID Usage Policy
RFID technology is an important component of YourDay at Alton Towers and we have taken great care to ensure that our application is implemented responsibly.
So, what have we done regarding the two key issues of privacy and safety? Well, on the privacy front we have put in place the following measures:
- Each wristband has a passive RFID tag that contains pre-locked data, so at no time do we hold customer data on the wristband
- Each wristband has an electronically generated eight character serial number created from 32 digit alphanumeric combinations. This creates over 2 billion serial numbers
- The wristbands are distributed randomly in the park. This, combined with the uniquely generated serial number, makes the identification of a single wristband impossible without actually possessing the wristband
- And, very importantly, there is no obligation to wear a wristband at the park; it is entirely the guest’s choice
We have been equally rigorous on the safety front:
- All the technology used in the design and production of the wristbands conforms to all U.K. and European safety regulations
- In accordance with OFCOM, YourDay has limited the power of the RFID equipment to scan the tag in the wristband to a maximum of 2.0 watts (emitting less than half the energy of anti-theft systems such as are used in libraries)
- All our staff are available to answer guests’ straightforward questions on RFID used within the park
